Apparently DTN thinks that there is some validity to this website because they have begun hiring people to leave fictitious comments! Sneaky and underhanded? Absolutely! Unfortunately, this is norm for DTN Management Company.

You've VotedRATE THIS COMMENTYou can't beat the location- I walked to class most days. The office staff, however, is less than helpful. They frequently screw up billing... and if you have any maintenance issues, they are very slow about addressing them and often take short-cuts instead of fixing it right the first time. It was a quiet community when I moved in back in 2004, but the noise level has increased considerably over the last two years. Between the construction dirt and noise and all the parties (which the office does nothing about, by the way), it was a less than ideal place to study. The club house has some great amenities, but you need a card to get in after 6 pm. Parking can be an issue as well- one of my friends that lived at Berrytree had her carport double-booked not once but twice. If you have pets, they allow cats but not dogs... and they charge a pet deposit and a monthly fee per cat (it was $15/month, not sure what it is now). Another consideration is that they constantly have people entering your apartment for inspections and many miscellaneous reasons- so if you value your privacy and want a more hands-off "landlord," look elsewhere. Laundry facilities in the basement are convenient, but a little more expensive than the laundermat.

You've VotedRATE THIS COMMENTOverall, especially what I considered from DTN, living at Berrytree wasn't bad. The place was clean. The office staff was always pleasant and willing to help clear up a few billing screw-ups. The only maintenance issues I had were my toilet tank started overflowing (while I was sleeping) and the maintenance crew was there quite quickly after the people downstairs noticed. The handle on the microwave broke and they replaced it within a day.
My only suggestions are these:
-Live in a building not immediately next to the train tracks. Trains run constantly from 11pm-5am.
-Don't get a "Terrace Level," a.k.a. basement, apartment. I asked if flooding was an issue before signing a lease. The reply: "They think they have that fixed." I think they did. Instead, it got cold enough in the basement for a water main to break and flood the basement apartments anyway. Which brings me to...
-It's free heat, so don't expect it to be perfect. 95% of the time it works 100% of the time.
-The walls seem fairly solid, but the floors transmit sound.
Gripes aside, free heat, free (hot) water, short distance to campus, reasonable rent. I give it a 7.5/10Source: Apartment Ratings - Berrytree sucks+6 votes-Anonymous- from Someplace - 3 years ago

You've VotedRATE THIS COMMENTI lived in Berrytree from 2005 to 2007. The location is great for the med school, which is why about 80% of their residents live there. Just pray that nothing ever goes wrong, because no one in the office or with dtn management will be able to make it right. By far the worst apartment complex I have ever lived in.

You've VotedRATE THIS COMMENTi have a 2 bedroom apartment. the apartment is a 1000 sq ft it has a walk in closet in one room and another closet in the same room and the other room has to fairly large closets. there are closets and storage all over, they are also maintained very well. but the mantiance men are dirty smelly and perverted. i'm a 20 year dude and i thought theses guys are gross. i had a cloged drain so i put in a maintaince request a few days latter i'm siting in my apt watching tv and i hear a knock and i get up to go to the door and before i'm even on my feet the guy is opening the door on me in my boxers. he tells me hes ther to work on the drain i say ok (he is also the worst smelling person i have ever had the displease of being in the same room with, a mix of b/o cigerette smoke and nasty). i ask if he needs me to move anything he says no, but i move all my stuff off the bathroom counter. he then cleans out the drain and splatters black crap all over the bathroom, and doesn't clean it up. i tried to continue watching tv but i get worried about him making a mess so i go to watch. he procedes to splatter crap all over the bathroom with me watching the whole time he is tellling me how great his job is cuz he "gets to go in to girls apts and see them in their panties and bras and stuff" he was really pereverted really smelly and just generally discusting he left a mess in my bathroom. I have had work done several,t imes and everytime theyeither don't tell u before hand or warn u the afternoon before and they come really early in the morning they have inspetions every few months and are a big pain in the butt. i come back from class and find a notice saying there will be no water tomorrow from 8am to 2pm. (thats a big warning isn't it) and that certain areas wont be avalible to park in and u may be asked to move ur vehichle. I went to class in my roomates car she gets a phone call during class but doesn't answer and they don't leave a message. they aperently wanted me to move my car. they have my phone number and there are parking stickers on my car so they know whos it is but i don't get a call, so they tow my car while i'm in class. i wasn't charged but i left a coffe cup in my car which they o-so nicely dumped all over my car. also the people above me have a party tues-sat and often times urinate off the balcony above me. the bigger rooms arent worth the money or putting up with the dtn employees

You've VotedRATE THIS COMMENTThis place looks nice and is in a great location. However it is very overpriced considering that for students, it is still a hike to most of campus.
Also, management is horrible and DTN lives up to its billing as worst landlord in the lansing area. If you can possibly avoid it, don't rent from DTN, ever!Source: Apartment Ratings - Pushy Staff+4 votes-Anonymous- from Someplace - 6 years ago

You've VotedRATE THIS COMMENTWarning: Only live here if you like being pushed around. One month after I moved in the people from the office started harassing me about renewing my lease. They harass you like twice a day whenever they want something, but if you call more than once because you're dishwasher hasn't worked in over a week they treat you like you're a huge bother.

You've VotedRATE THIS COMMENTAll I have to say is stay away from this place unless you like crappy neighbors. The people above me are constantly partying. One of them even got drunk and puked down onto my balcony. The people to one side of me have a cat that constantly cries whenever it's home alone. The people to the other side of me smoke so much dope that I'm starting to smell like a pothead.
I would love my apartment if it weren't for the other people in my building. I was really excited about living here, but I won't be staying because of my neighbors.Source: Apartment Ratings - TERRIBLE+9 votes-Anonymous- from Someplace - 6 years ago

You've VotedRATE THIS COMMENTWe had cockroaches and roof leaks. Management is rude, untimely and unfriendly. Friends warned me about renting from DTN before I did but I didn't listen, so trust me DO NOT RENT FROM DTN! EVER

You've VotedRATE THIS COMMENTI just lived in Berrytree for the summer at a subleased price. Yes the apartment is spacious, yes the landscaping is nice, but boy is management terrible. They gave residents less than 14 hours notice when they paved the parking area. It required us to move our cars for 24 hours and if they weren't moved by 7 the next morning they would be towed at our expense ($60-$100). I felt sorry for the poor people who were on vacation or just weren't around the night before to get the flier. Also they say that they will give you 24 hour notice if they ever need to come in to your apartment. They have never given me notice. They have on several occassions attempted to just barge in though. One time I was actually in the shower! The people who work at the desk are undertrained and can't seemed to answer questions. I would seriously recommend living in a place that treats you better.
Source: Apartment Ratings - Loud, poor service, stay away+7 votes-Anonymous- from Someplace - 8 years ago

You've VotedRATE THIS COMMENTI thought the apartment would be very nice since it was spacious and well located. I soon learned, however, that many things that were broken in the apartment would take the office quite a while to fix. The train is very loud and passes the apartments rather frequently. Parking is cramped, and plowing was inadequate and slow. The summer months, the hallways are oppressively hot due to poor ventilation. They want you to make a decision to renew your lease in December when it doesn't expire until June. And to top it all off, the office entered my apartment to show it to perspective renters without getting my permission. They considered leaving a message on my answering maching an hour before they were coming adequate notice. Well, if I work all day and come home after the message, that doesn't count as granting permission. It counts as illegal.

You've VotedRATE THIS COMMENTWhen we moved in we were so excited, all the room and closet space! It quicly turned into a nightmare! Our bedroom window was broken and wouldn't close... when did it get fixed' In DECEMBER, mid-december after having reported it in August when we moved in, and reported every two weeks after that. We both developed brochitus. Also when we reported having troubles with our dishwasher, a maintenance guy came in and broke it! We had to wait another three weeks to get a new one. Also, don't let them fool you the train comes by about 4 times in an hour and is EXTREMLY loud. Our apartment shakes. Also in the summer the whole complex is so poorly ventilated that it's smelly and hot, no matter how much you use your box air conditioner. Oh yeah one more thing, the showers go from scalding hot to freezing about 6 times during a SHORT shower. Just walk away from this place. The only good thing I can say is that the clubhouse is nice. 6TrHFn6pn7poyqNlKEgn
